ACMPE Update…

During the past 14 years, I have utilized the resources and education at both the state and national levels to assist me in my professional development. At the national conference in Philadelphia, I attained Fellowship in the American College of Medical Practice Executives [ACMPE] and now continue to serve you as your Pennsylvania MGMA ACMPE Representative.

My role as your ACMPE Representative is to provide  you with information regarding professional development and certification, to promote MGMA and ACMPE, and to encourage you to advance through the board certification and fellowship processes.   Since many PA MGMA members do not know of ACMPE or are hesitant at the process to become certified, I will offer a series of email broadcasts to demystify the certification process and show you the numerous resources available to you in the process.

What is ACMPE?

ACMPE was established in 1956 as an affiliate of MGMA to provide board certification, self-assessment and leadership development for medical practice executives.  Essentially, ACMPE is the educational branch of MGMA.

The mission of ACMPE is to continually improve the performance of medical group practice professionals and the organizations they represent.

Board Certified Practice Executives and those who have attained Fellowship status report the following benefits:

  • Demonstrates your knowledge in the area of medical practice management
  • Increases the respect you command in the workplace
  • Enhances your professional status
  • Provides a distinct advantage over other candidates when seeking employment and promotions
  • Assists you in demanding more salary, on average, than noncertified professionals
  • Expands your network

It quickly becomes clear that ACMPE is the path to take to further your credentials in your chosen field.

What is the Next Step?
Now that you know what ACMPE is, the next step is to submit an application and dues. Listed below is a link to join ACMPE.  http://www.mgma.com/join/default.aspx?id=1282

Already a member of ACMPE but haven't taken the next step?

  • Pass objective and essay questions
  • Deliver two presentations
  • Earn 50 continuing education hours

Already certified but haven’t achieved Fellowship status?

The final step is to attain status as a Fellow in the ACMPE.  In order to do so, you need to write three case studies or one professional paper.

As your ACMPE College Forum Representative, I look forward to working with you through the certification process and will gladly offer you the many resources available. Feel free to e-mail me at thepp@laurelhs.org or call me at 570.723.3460. Until next time……

Terri Hepp, MS, FACMPE

Pennsylvania MGMA ACMPE Representative
